Configuring Sharepoint Service Provider (MOSS 2007 SSP)

Configuring Sharepoint service provider is one of the important task when you are setting up a sharepoint server (MOSS 2007).

The following steps will help you in creating and configuring SSP.

Configuring the SSP (Shared Service Provider)


1. Start > Programs > Microsoft Office Server > SharePoint 3.0 Central Administration > menu from the application server. This will open SharePoint central administration site in internet explorer.
2. In SharePoint central administration site click on Shared Service Administration, this will open Share service administration page.
3. Click on New Shared Service Provider
4. Click on Create a new Web Application
5. Select Create a new IIS web site.
6. Give a Your Port number other than 80
7. Select NTLM under Authentication provider
8. Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) should be selected as No.
9. Select Restart IIS Automatically
10. Give the user name and password in the appropriate textboxes.
11. Select Windows authentication under Database authentication.
12. Click OK (This will create new web application for SSP)
13. Click on Create New Web Application under Mysite section.
16. Select Create a new IIS web site.
17. Give a port number other than 80
18. Select NTLM under Authentication provider
19. Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) should be selected as No.
20. Select Restart IIS Automatically
21. Give the user name and password in the appropriate textboxes.
22. Select Windows authentication under Database authentication.
23. Click OK (This will create new web application for Mysite)
24. Now we are again back to SSP creation page after successful creation SSP site and SSP Mysite.
25. Continue with SSP creation page.
26. Give the user name and password in the appropriate textboxes.
27. Select Windows authentication under SSP database authentication.
28. Select Windows authentication under Search database authentication.
29. Set Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) value to No
30. Click OK for creating SSP.
